FTSE: A dragonfly doji last week against Fib 76.4 per cent retracement resistance underlines the struggle this index had had in this area. Chart/Levels from Analyst, Nicole Elliott – Investors Chronicle.

Gangster attack in Hong Kong
After planned protests in the city centre

Another Sunday, and another day of anti-government protests, where tens of thousands surrounded China’s representative office downtown, Reuters reports. After the event those taking the train home and getting off at the rural Yuen Long station were faced with dozens of white-clad, hard hatted and baton or pole wielding thugs, possibly members of a triad. Police were called during the attack, but took over an hour to reach the scene.

Today in Shanghai a new stock exchange opened, the Star Market, which will focus on science and technology company shares. Hopes had been high for this initiative of President Xi Jinping, where the first 25 of the 140 listings planned started trading. By this afternoon all were up and, because there are no daily limits to price moves, most were between 100 and 200 per cent higher.
