IS THIS THE VIETNAM ERA AGAIN? Congress needs to change its 2nd amendment views to deal with the modern times. By Todd Horwitz, Bubba Trading.

It has been fifty years since the height of the Vietnam war that the country has become so divided. The tragedies that occurred this past week in a Walmart in El Paso Texas and in Dayton Ohio have split the country into two parts. One part believes that the shooters are influenced by the rhetoric of President Trump and his anti-immigration stance. Others believe that the motives are much more complicated. In any case the politics of division remain in place.

Senator Bernie Sanders (D. Vermont) was the first to hop on the anti-Trump band wagon. He said that Mitch McConnell (R. Kentucky) the majority leader in the Senate should cancel the break and call congress back in session to deal with the second amendment rights and to change the way that guns can be issued. Senator Corey Booker (D. New Jersey) said that “Donald Trump bears direct responsibility for the shootings because of his racist views and the hate that he spews, he should be impeached immediately and held responsible for the blood shed”. The list goes on and on. Politicians know that there is nothing better than a crisis to make the best of a bad situation.

But how do the American people feel about the situation? Once you get past the extremist on both sides of the isle you can get a real view of why people think the violence is occurring. In a poll conducted by the Wall Street Journal over the weekend the results may shock you. 78% of all interviewed felt that the cause was mental health, their logic is quite simple only people with severe mental problems could possible commit such heinous crimes. Next in line was racism and white power, 50% of the population believe that to be the cause. Many believe it was Mr. Trump who they feel is stirring up the pot in the hopes that it will bring out racists voters to keep him in office in 2020.

How do I feel? There are so many factors that are creating this situation that it would take a book to cover them all. I do believe that the chief cause of the problem is mental health, and with availability to express their hatred on social media it is very hard to check out the fantasies of a 10 year old boy who watches too many violent video games or the thoughts of an 18 year old who wants to be known as a tough guy killer. More violence is guaranteed and anyone that thinks that it will suddenly stop is not in touch with reality.

I believe that tighter gun laws need to be implemented. Congress needs to change its 2nd amendment views to deal with the modern times. There is no reason for a 21 year old thug to have an AK 47 in the back seat of his car. It will take bipartisan action by both houses in congress to get this done, and the chances of that are the same as the Pittsburgh Pirates winning the world series in 2019. Unfortunately, this is America today and until the hate is defeated by reason there will always be this problem.
